Five hut circles near Yealm Steps

This scheduled monument comprises five stone hut circles forming part of a substantial Bronze Age settlement on Dartmoor. The circles are built from stone and represent the domestic dwellings of people who lived on the moor during the prehistoric period, exploiting its upland resources for grazing and subsistence.

Today the site lies in moorland landscape southeast of Yealm Steps. The hut circles are visible as low stone rings, weathered by centuries on the open moor. They sit within a wider settlement pattern visible across Dartmoor, evidence of sustained habitation and land use in the Bronze Age. This is a place where the ancient past remains physically present in the moorland terrain.
