Enclosed hut circle settlement near Deadlake Foot

This scheduled monument is the remains of a prehistoric settlement where people built and lived in stone hut circles, likely during the Bronze Age. The huts were circular structures with stone footings, designed to be roofed with thatch or turf. Several of these foundations can still be traced on the ground as low stone rings, evidence of a community that made its home in this upland landscape.

Today the site sits among typical Dartmoor moorland, with its settlement pattern reflecting the way Bronze Age people used the high ground for habitation and grazing. The hut circles are modest in scale and unobtrusive, but they tell a story of how the moor has been occupied and shaped by humans for over three thousand years. The site is most easily read on the ground by those familiar with Bronze Age archaeology.
