Chapel of St Lawrence

The Chapel of St Lawrence is a small listed building of likely medieval date, dedicated to one of the early Christian saints. It stands in the open moorland landscape characteristic of Dartmoor's higher ground, where such isolated chapels served scattered communities and wayfarers crossing the moor.

Today the chapel survives as a reminder of Dartmoor's long Christian heritage and the religious life of the moor's inhabitants and travellers. Its Grade II* listing reflects its historical significance. The moorland setting and the chapel's modest form tell much about worship and settlement patterns in this exposed corner of Devon.
