Historic England's scheduling record (list entry 1021217) describes a chambered cairn on an east-facing slope of Buttern Hill, above the valley of the River Teign. It is a mound 26 metres long by 9 metres wide and up to 1 metre high. Towards the west end are several set stones, the remains of a passage leading to a chamber. The biggest stone stands up to 1.6 metres high and leans northward against another upright. It lies in the parish of Gidleigh, about 1.2 km south of Shilstone Tor and 1.4 km north-west of Gidleigh.
