Part of Two Bridges →

Cists are ancient stone tombs found on Dartmoor, dating back to the Late Neolithic and early Bronze Age. These box-like structures, often located in the centre of cairn circles, were created by the people who lived in hut circles. Over 180 cists have been identified on Dartmoor, with many more potentially buried beneath unexplored mounds. These tombs are unique in their orientation, with most aligned in a NW/SE direction, facing the sun.
