Broad Barrow

Grid ref: SX 7055 7991

Broad Barrow is a Bronze Age round barrow nestled in the upland landscape of Dartmoor, a low but distinctive earthwork that speaks to the people who walked this moor thousands of years ago. From its summit you can see across the vast, rolling terrain that defines the National Park—a landscape little changed since the Bronze Age, when these burial mounds were constructed to mark the final resting places of the moor's ancient inhabitants.

The barrow sits exposed to the elements, surrounded by heather, grass, and gorse. There's an honesty to the place—no interpretive boards, no protective fencing, just the monument itself and the wide Dartmoor sky. It's the kind of site that rewards a wandering exploration of the moorland, offering perspective on both deep time and the enduring character of this landscape.
