Barn Attached to near Walreddon Manor

Grid ref: SX 4773 7132

On walking routes: West Devon Way

This barn is a Grade II* listed building attached to the north west of Walreddon Manor. As a secondary structure to the manor house, it reflects the working life of a significant Dartmoor holding, built to shelter animals and store the produce of the surrounding farmland.

The barn survives as evidence of the integrated agricultural economy that sustained moorland estates. Its construction and form tell of practical needs: shelter from the Dartmoor weather and space for the seasonal rhythms of upland farming. Visitors walking the moorland around Walreddon will find it a tangible connection to how the landscape was managed and lived in across the generations.
