Marsham and the Ilsington vicarial glebe

This one is not a family estate. The 1,632 acres in Ilsington are entered as the vicarial glebe, the land of the church office held by the Rev. Charles Marsham in 1840, and most of it (about 1,355 acres in the three biggest pieces) is common land. It belongs on the map as 'church land', not as a family seat.

In 1840 the tithe lists them as Reverend Charles Marsham (Vicarial Glebe). 1,632 acres on the Dartmoor-parish tithe maps: Ilsington 1,632.

Notes

The Marshams of Stratton Strawless, Norfolk (Earls of Romney) are a large family with entries in Burke's Peerage and Walford's County Families. No source seen so far says the Ilsington vicar belongs to that family, so none is claimed.
