Where the sources differ

Burke names Elizabeth Carew's father as Walter Palk of Marley, Devon, and says she was his only daughter. The History of Parliament has a Walter Palk of Ashburton (1742-1819), nephew of Governor Robert Palk, M.P. for Ashburton 1796 to 1811, who married Elizabeth Lyde in 1782, had two daughters, bought the Rattery estate by 1790 and died on 19 February 1819. He may be Burke's Walter Palk of Marley, since Marley lies in Rattery, but the History of Parliament names neither Marley nor the Carew marriage, so the two are not identified as one man here.
Burke's Peerage entry for Palk of Haldon names a Walter Palk, M.P. for Ashburton, as brother of the Governor. The History of Parliament calls the M.P. his nephew and makes the Governor's brother, also Walter, the M.P.'s father.

Notes

Lysons (1822) lists Sir Henry Carew at Haccombe and at Thorverton (unoccupied), and says Tiverton Castle was inhabited by the Dowager Lady Carew.
