Rachel Burch Westcountry Photography
I’ve lived in and around Dartmoor for twenty odd years now, I know western Dartmoor where I live now fairly well but some parts remain mysteriously unexplored.
I used to be a pro photographer before I became unwell ten years ago and became a wheelchair user.
The illness is really boring with an unpronounceable name, suffice to say I feel dreadful most of the time, and I find it hard to sit up in my wheelchair.
The moor has kept me sane through the last decade, my weekly trips out with my camera have remained a priority. I take most of my photos from my car now so lanes feature a lot, they are photogenic, and to me, part of Dartmoor’s charm.
The moorland animals, cows, sheep and ponies wandering about randomly give this place an unruly charm, and a character of its own. I also write poetry, inspired by the moor’s history and landscape.
