Pound Rock

Grid ref: SX 7396 8415

Pound Rock sits on a green triangle at the north entrance to North Bovey, marked by its own finger post. It is a granite boulder, broad and long but low, reaching little more than a metre in height on its west side. The name comes from its historical use several centuries ago as a pound for impounding stray animals, a practical function that has left its mark on the landscape long after the practice itself faded.
