Plymouth City Council

Plymouth City Council is the unitary local authority for the city of Plymouth, Devon's largest city, sitting just beyond the southwestern fringe of Dartmoor. As a unitary authority it combines the functions of a district and county council, running services across adult social care and safeguarding, children and families, housing, council tax and benefits, waste and recycling, parking and travel, planning and building control, libraries and registration of births, marriages and deaths. For Dartmoor residents and visitors, Plymouth City Council matters chiefly as the local authority for the city many moorland communities look to for jobs, healthcare, further education and transport connections, and as the operator of roads, park-and-ride and bus services linking the city to the moor's southern approaches. The council is led by elected councillors representing the city's wards, supported by council officers based mainly at Ballard House.
