Milestone Approximately 100 Metres South Of Gage's Mill

Pridhamsleigh, Ashburton, Devon

Grid ref: SX 7461 6876

This modest stone marker stands beside the road approximately 100 metres south of Gage's Mill. Like many milestones scattered across Dartmoor and Devon's turnpike network, it would once have guided travellers and carrier carts with distance information to nearby towns and junctions. The stone represents the practical infrastructure of the moor's transport history, when such markers were essential navigation aids.

Today the milestone remains a quiet testament to the routes that shaped settlement and trade across this landscape. Walkers and local residents may pass it without notice, yet it carries the weight of centuries of journeys along what were once important through-routes. The surrounding moorland has changed far less than the roads themselves.
