Michael Jecks was born in Redhill, Surrey, in 1960. He worked in the computer industry for about thirteen years before becoming a full-time writer in 1994.
His first novel, The Last Templar, appeared in 1995. It began a long series of medieval mysteries featuring Sir Baldwin Furnshill, a former Knight Templar, and Simon Puttock, bailiff of Lydford Castle. Many of the books are set in Devon, and several take their titles from Dartmoor places, including Belstone, Throwleigh, Gidleigh and Sticklepath.
He lives and walks on northern Dartmoor, and lists walking on the moor among his interests.
