John Howell

John Howell has served the Dartmoor Preservation Association for many years, first as Treasurer and now as Chairman, bringing access expertise and a deep personal commitment to Dartmoor. Under his chairmanship the DPA contributed meaningfully to the 2025 Supreme Court victory protecting the right to wild camp on Dartmoor, significantly renewed and diversified its trustee body, and grew its influence and financial resilience.

John is a regular walk leader for the DPA, planning routes rich in archaeology and social history for the association's free guided walks and storywalks, open to members and non-members alike. He is also a long-standing member of the Exeter & District Group of the Ramblers, has walked the Two Moors Way four times, and has supported the Two Moors Way Association for around fifteen years.
