Higher Shilstone Farmhouse Including Stables

Grid ref: SX 6601 9014

On walking routes: Taw Teign Link

Higher Shilstone is a substantial farmhouse set into the Dartmoor landscape, with its associated stables and boundary walls still largely intact. The building's form and construction reflect the farming traditions of Dartmoor's upland country, where stone, slate and local materials were worked into practical and enduring structures.

Today the farmhouse and its immediate surroundings remain part of the working moorland fringe. The stables and garden walls adjoining to the south survive as physical reminders of the integrated nature of moorland farms, where livestock, buildings and domestic space formed a single functional whole. Grade I listing reflects its architectural and historical significance within the broader story of Dartmoor settlement.
