Great Rock

Hennock, Devon

Grid ref: SX 8215 8183

Great Rock is a striking cluster of huge, vegetation-covered outcrops hidden in the trees above the public footpath from Hennock to Beadon Bridge. Its shape, resembling a giant mushroom, offers a unique view from the top, where one can see an unexpected pale face rising above the treeline. First detailed by Mike Brown in his 1995 Gazetteer, Great Rock is noted for its bulbous form and is one of the grandest tors in the far East of Dartmoor.
