Prehistoric settlement with cairns near the Langcombe Brook

This scheduled monument combines two distinct periods of human activity on Dartmoor. The prehistoric cairns speak to settlement and land use in the Bronze Age, when communities built ritual and domestic structures across the high moor. Later, tin working became the landscape's defining industry, and the mill, streamwork and associated buildings here show how miners harnessed water power to process ore from the surrounding ground.

Today the site lies beside Langcombe Brook in a working moorland valley. The remains are modest but legible to those who read the landscape: stone structures and earthworks that anchor Dartmoor's long history of habitation and extraction. The brook itself, once vital to the mill's operation, continues to define the site and its setting.
