Things New and Old Concerning the Parish of Widecombe-in-the-Moor and its Neighbourhood

byRobert Dymond

1876 · Torquay Directory Company, Limited

Edited by Robert Dymond, F.S.A., of Exeter, and published at Torquay in 1876. By its preface it was compiled in connection with an effort to raise funds for the restoration of the parish church of Widecombe-in-the-Moor, and the proceeds of its sale went to that object. Dymond wrote much of it himself.

It is arranged as numbered items, including an introduction to the parish, a perambulation of the high ground round the valley, the church, the parish registers and the contents of the parish chest. The village website has transcribed the items one by one. The book is often cited simply as Widecombe in the Moor, which is also the lettering on the cover.
