Mid Devon District Council is the local authority for the Tiverton, Crediton and Cullompton area, with its main office at Phoenix House in Tiverton. Its district touches the northeastern edge of the Dartmoor area, taking in some of the rural parishes and villages that lie between the moor and the Exe Valley.
The council's core services include weekly rubbish and recycling collections, council tax billing and support, and planning applications. It runs an emergency planning function, supports vulnerable residents through a lifeline alarm scheme, and offers help with home energy switching. Housing advice, business rates, licensing and environmental health are all handled by the council, alongside support for the district's many town and parish councils. For residents in the Dartmoor-adjacent parishes within Mid Devon, the council is the point of contact for waste collection, council tax, planning and general environmental health queries.
