The Barrel House Ballroom is an independent, 150-capacity music venue in the heart of Totnes. It hosts local, national and international bands and artists, as well as comedy nights, Word Cafes and a range of other live events.
The first iteration of the Ballroom as a live music venue occurred sometime in the mid 1990s. No one can quite remember when it moved from being a café/bar that held the occasional event to a dedicated gig space, but during its early years the Ballroom built up its reputation as a grassroots music venue.
The venue has also regularly hosted bands and DJs for some of Totnes’ music festivals, including Sea Change Festival and Party in the Town. It works with a number of community groups, including Jamming Station, The Word Cafe, Black Bird Collective and Chapter 12 Comedy Club.
One of the primary aims of the Barrel House is to provide opportunities to new and emerging talent and to foster an environment that is open and accessible to all, be it performers or audiences alike.
Totnes is a short journey from the south-eastern edge of Dartmoor. Gigs and events at the Barrel House are listed in What’s On.
