This scheduled monument represents a Bronze Age or early Iron Age settlement pattern typical of Dartmoor's upland commons. The site comprises an enclosed area with an attached stone hut circle, together with a length of reave, the characteristic stone boundary walls that divide the moor into land units. Such arrangements suggest pastoral management and settlement from a period when the moorland was more extensively inhabited than today.
Today the remains sit among heather and rough grassland north-north-east of Leather Tor, part of the dense archaeological landscape that characterises this part of Dartmoor. The stones are low and weathered, but clearly visible enough to trace the layout of the settlement and reave. Walking the moor here reveals the sheer extent of prehistoric use across the higher ground.
