High House Waste Workday
Continuing the work from 1st NOVEMBER.
High House Waste, which owned by the DPA, is far from a “wasteland” — it is a mosaic of valley mires, woodland, moorland and streams, and supports a rich diversity of specialist plants and insects, including rare bryophytes, lichens, and the carnivorous Pale Butterwort.
Crucially, its valley mires are designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and it stands out as one of the few Dartmoor mires currently assessed to be in favourable condition.
The site is also rich in archaeology; a Bronze Age settlement can be found to the NE and and extensive mediaeval farmstead and field system further south. Workdays are aimed at conserving and improving habitats, conserving the archaeological features and creating and maintaining paths and firebreaks.
Start time: 10.00am
