Two cairns

These two cairns form part of a substantial cairnfield scattered across the western slope of White Hill. Built during the Bronze Age, they are among hundreds of similar monuments that punctuate Dartmoor's high ground, evidence of sustained human activity and burial practice across the moor over many centuries.

Today the cairns remain as modest stone heaps in the moorland landscape, their original purposes and the communities that built them long distant. They sit within a broader pattern of archaeological remains that together tell the story of Bronze Age settlement and land use on Dartmoor, and reward visitors with the quiet experience of walking among these ancient markers of human presence.
