This is a Bronze Age hut circle, one of several forming a partially enclosed settlement on the high ground northeast of Merrivale Bridge. The stone walls that once formed the circular dwellings are still visible in the moorland turf, evidence of a community that lived and worked here in the Bronze Age, roughly 3,500 to 2,500 years ago.
The settlement sits in open moorland typical of Dartmoor's prehistoric landscape. Visitors today find scattered stone foundations and wall lines among heather and grass. The site is part of a wider pattern of Bronze Age occupation across the moor, where communities built permanent homes and left lasting marks on the land we walk today.
