Hut circle near Sharpitor

This scheduled monument is one of several hut circles that form a Bronze Age settlement on Dartmoor's open moorland. Such structures, built from stone and likely roofed with turf and thatch, would have housed families during the prehistoric period when the moor supported scattered pastoral communities. The circular stone foundations, often sunk slightly into the ground, are what remain today.

Walking the area, you can see how the settlement relates to the wider landscape: the granite outcrops, water sources, and grazing grounds that would have made this place liveable and workable. It is one of many such settlements dotting Dartmoor, evidence of human occupation and land use across several centuries of prehistory.
