Round cairn

This round cairn is part of a Bronze Age cairnfield that spreads across Longstone Hill, evidence of intensive ritual and burial activity on the moor thousands of years ago. Such cairns typically mark cremation or inhumation sites, and their clustering in fields suggests sustained use of the landscape over generations.

Today the cairn survives as a low stony mound among others on the moorland, modest but tangible. Visiting the site means walking out onto open Dartmoor, where the cairnfield lies embedded in the wider prehistoric geography of stone circles, settlements, and monuments that shape how we read the moor's deep past.
