Round cairn near White Hill

This is a round cairn situated about 300 metres south-west of White Hill's summit, part of a Bronze Age burial ground that clusters several cairns across this moorland plateau. Round cairns of this type typically date from the early to middle Bronze Age, built as monuments over cremated remains or burials. The White Hill cemetery represents a significant concentration of these ancient structures, evidence of sustained ritual and burial practice across generations.

Today the cairn survives as an earthwork on open moorland, visible to anyone walking this part of central Dartmoor. It forms part of the wider archaeological landscape where Bronze Age communities left their mark on the moor. The site is a scheduled monument, protected for its historical importance. Visiting involves walking across typical Dartmoor terrain and requires no facilities.
