Ramsay Mine is one of many industrial scars that tell the story of Dartmoor's tin and copper boom. The ruins—fragmentary stone structures emerging from the heather—date from the 1800s, when miners worked these exposed slopes extracting tin ore. Today, nature has largely reclaimed the site, with only foundations and partial walls remaining as evidence of the enterprise.
Visiting requires patience to find the remains among the moorland vegetation, but the effort rewards you with a tangible connection to Dartmoor's industrial heritage. The exposed location offers views across the moor, and the quiet ruins feel authentically untouched—no interpretation boards, no manicured paths, just granite and heather marking where people once labored.
