Outer Huccaby Ring sits on the high moor with the kind of exposure that makes you understand why Iron Age people built here, you can see threats coming from miles away. The site consists of two concentric earthen rings, their banks now softened by time but still commanding the landscape. Walking the perimeter, you trace the decisions of people who chose this particular hilltop to defend and define their territory on Dartmoor.

The site rewards a visit in clear weather when you can appreciate the panoramic views that made this location strategically valuable. The moorland around it is open and rolling, with Bronze Age cairns and later settlements scattered across the granite landscape.
