This stone hut circle sits on Longash Common, east of Merrivale Bridge, one of many such structures scattered across Dartmoor's high moorland. Dating to the Bronze Age, it represents a period when the moor supported a more extensive population than it does today, living in small family groups in roundhouses built from stone and timber.
Today the hut circle survives as a low stone foundation and earthwork, visible to those who know where to look. It stands as evidence of how people adapted to life on open moorland thousands of years ago, and forms part of the wider pattern of prehistoric settlement that defines much of Dartmoor's archaeological character.
