Vermin trap 90m west of Great Trowlesworthy Tor

This vermin trap forms part of Trowlesworthy Warren, one of Dartmoor's significant managed landscapes. The trap itself is a simple but effective structure, built to control predators that threatened the rabbits and other small game kept within the warren. Such traps are characteristic of the warren system that flourished on Dartmoor from medieval times onwards, reflecting the value placed on these animals as a food source and commercial resource.

Today the trap survives as an earthwork near Great Trowlesworthy Tor, a modest but tangible reminder of how intensively parts of Dartmoor were managed and exploited. The wider warren landscape, with its banks, pillow mounds and associated features, tells the story of Dartmoor's working past and the ways communities shaped the moor to their needs.
