Vermin trap near Trowlesworthy Warren House

This vermin trap forms part of Trowlesworthy Warren, a medieval rabbit warren that once covered much of this corner of Dartmoor. The warren was a managed landscape, maintained to breed rabbits for meat and fur. Like other warrens of the period, it would have included various structures and devices to protect the rabbits from predators and control the landscape.

Today the trap survives as an earthwork feature within the broader warren complex. Walking here you are moving through a working medieval landscape, now returned to open moorland. The warren sits on the granite uplands east of Princetown, part of the network of historic land use that shaped Dartmoor over centuries.
