Two hut circles near Down Tor

These two stone hut circles, located 160 metres south of Down Tor's summit, are the remains of domestic structures dating to the Bronze Age. Built from stone footings and originally topped with timber frames and thatch, they represent the kind of settlement that dotted Dartmoor during the second millennium BC, when the climate was warmer and the moor more densely inhabited than today.

The site sits in open moorland with views across the surrounding landscape. Visitors will find low stone rings marking where the circular walls once stood, weathered and sometimes obscured by heather and grass. These humble remains offer a tangible connection to people who lived, worked and raised families here thousands of years ago, long before the moor acquired its present character.
