Two round cairns near Great Nodden

Two round cairns occupy this exposed stretch of Dartmoor moorland south west of Great Nodden. These are Bronze Age burial monuments, likely built between roughly 2500 and 1000 BC, when the moor supported a denser population than it does today. The cairns are constructed from stones gathered from the surrounding ground, piled to mark graves or places of ritual significance.

Today they sit in typical Dartmoor landscape of rough grass, heather and granite outcrops. They form part of a wider pattern of Bronze Age monuments scattered across the high moor, evidence of an ancient community whose presence has left its mark on the landscape for over three thousand years. The site is a scheduled monument, protected for its archaeological importance.
