Two round cairns 600m ENE of Great Trowlesworthy Tor

These two round cairns, positioned 600 metres to the east and northeast of Great Trowlesworthy Tor, are Bronze Age burial monuments typical of the extensive cairn field that covers much of central Dartmoor. Built as stone mounds over cremated remains, they represent the ritual practices of communities who occupied the moor during the second millennium BC, when this high ground supported settled settlement and pastoral farming.

Today the cairns survive as low stony mounds in the open moorland, part of a broader scatter of prehistoric monuments that define this stretch of Dartmoor. They offer insight into how the Bronze Age people of the moor marked their dead and territories, and sit within a landscape layered with similar sites spanning thousands of years. The site is best approached on foot from the nearby tor, following the tracery of older paths across the moor.
