Two cairns

These two cairns form the western edge of a cairnfield, a scattered group of burial mounds built during the Bronze Age. They sit on the northern slope of White Hill, part of the wider ritual and funerary landscape that characterises Dartmoor's high moorland. Such cairnfields are among the most distinctive prehistoric monuments on the moor, evidence of communities who lived and died here thousands of years ago.

Today the cairns remain as low stone mounds, visible among the heather and grass. From this vantage point on White Hill's slope, you can sense the moor's open, ancient character. The site is a scheduled monument, protected for its archaeological importance. Walking here connects you to the deep history of Dartmoor's Bronze Age inhabitants and their use of the high ground.
