Two cairns

Longstone Hill holds two cairns that form part of a wider cairnfield, a scattered grouping of stone mounds built during the Bronze Age. These structures likely served as burial monuments or markers of ritual significance, built by communities who farmed and lived on Dartmoor thousands of years ago. The cairns are modest in scale but speak to patterns of settlement and belief that shaped the moor in prehistory.

Today the site sits within the open moorland landscape, where Bronze Age monuments are common. Visiting offers a chance to encounter the moor as it was understood by its earliest inhabitants, and to walk among the accumulated evidence of long human presence on high ground. The cairns are a Scheduled Monument, protected for their archaeological importance.
