Three pillow mounds and a linear gully 200m north of Great Trowlesworthy Tor

Trowlesworthy Warren preserves the physical remains of a medieval rabbit warren, a carefully managed landscape feature that would have supplied meat and fur to local lords and communities. The three pillow mounds visible here are the artificial burrows where rabbits were encouraged to breed and nest, while the linear gully likely served to control movement across the warren or direct animals between different sections.

These earthworks sit on open moorland north of Great Trowlesworthy Tor, part of the broader pattern of medieval land use that shaped Dartmoor. Such warrens were valuable resources, and their survival as scheduled monuments reflects their significance in understanding how people lived and worked on the moor in the medieval period.
