Hut circle 430m NNE of Hart Tor

This scheduled monument is part of an unenclosed Bronze Age settlement, a cluster of stone hut circles that once housed families on the open moor. The individual hut circle 430 metres north-northeast of Hart Tor is typical of Dartmoor's prehistoric domestic archaeology, built from stone cleared from surrounding land and arranged without defensive walls or formal enclosure.

Today the site survives as low stone foundations visible among the moorland vegetation. Such settlements reflect how people lived and worked on Dartmoor during the Bronze Age, adapting to the landscape and climate of the upland plateau. Walking the moor here, you encounter scattered traces of a landscape shaped by millennia of human use.
