Hut circle near Great Nodden

This is a single stone hut circle, one of several that once formed a settled community on this stretch of Dartmoor. Built during the Bronze Age, probably between 1500 and 700 BC, it would have housed a family or small group. The stone foundations remain visible on the ground, marking where walls once stood and a hearth kept the fire burning through moorland winters.

Today the hut circle sits as it has for over two thousand years, weathered but still recognisable among the heather and grass. It offers a quiet point to consider how people lived on the high moor in prehistory, and how settlements like this one were woven across the landscape in clusters and groups, sharing the moorland's resources and shelter.
