Hut circle 360m NNE of Hart Tor

This is a Bronze Age stone hut circle, part of a wider settlement of similar structures scattered across the moorland north-east of Hart Tor. The hut circle survives as a low ring of stone, evidence of a dwelling that would once have been roofed and occupied during the prehistoric period. Such settlements are common across Dartmoor, marking places where Bronze Age communities lived and herded livestock on the open moor.

Today the site sits within the working landscape of the high moor, unremarkable at first glance but eloquent of deep time. A visit requires moorland walking and some route-finding among the surrounding terrain. The hut circle itself is modest: what remains is the stone footprint of a home built thousands of years ago, a quiet marker of human presence in one of England's oldest inhabited landscapes.
