This scheduled monument is one of several hut circles that make up a Bronze Age settlement on Dartmoor's open moorland. Stone hut circles like this one are among the most evocative remains of prehistoric life on the moor, built as permanent or semi-permanent dwellings over three thousand years ago. The circular stone foundations, now low and often partly turf-covered, once supported roundhouses with timber frames and thatched roofs.
Located north-east of Sharpitor on the high ground, the site sits within the broader pattern of Bronze Age settlement that shaped Dartmoor's landscape. A visitor will find traces of the stone footings and the particular quietness of the upland setting, where the archaeology connects directly to the raw character of the moor itself. The settlement speaks to an era when this landscape was more intensively lived in than many might assume.
