Hut circle 260m north of Hart Tor

This scheduled monument is one of several stone hut circles that make up an unenclosed settlement on the high moor north of Hart Tor. Built during the Bronze Age, these structures represent some of Dartmoor's oldest evidence of permanent settlement, when farming communities occupied the upland landscape.

Today the hut circle survives as a low spread of stones marking the foundation of a dwelling. The wider settlement pattern, without formal boundaries or defensive features, reflects a time when people lived and worked openly across the moorland. Walking this part of central Dartmoor, you move through a landscape layered with such Bronze Age archaeology.
