Hut circle near Down Tor

This is a stone hut circle from the Bronze Age, located on open moorland south of Down Tor. The circular foundation of stone marks where a dwelling once stood, part of the scattered communities that lived and farmed on Dartmoor thousands of years ago. Such sites are common across the moor, though often subtle and easily missed.

Visiting the site today, you will find the remains as they are now: low stone walls forming a rough circle, weathered and partially overgrown. The landscape around it is typical high Dartmoor, open and windswept. The site is a scheduled monument, protected for its archaeological and historical importance.
