Stone hut circle 130m south east of the Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar on Cox Tor

This scheduled monument is the remains of a prehistoric hut circle located on the south eastern slopes of Cox Tor, close to the Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar that marks the summit area. The circular foundation is typical of Bronze Age domestic structures found across Dartmoor, built when the moor was more extensively settled and farmed than in later periods.
The site sits within a landscape dense with evidence of ancient occupation. From this vantage point you can see how Bronze Age communities positioned their homes on slopes that offered shelter and access to grazing and water. Today the hut circle remains as an earthwork, part of the archaeological story that makes Dartmoor one of England's richest prehistoric landscapes.
