Round cairn near Sharpitor

This round cairn sits on the open moorland roughly 690 metres north-east of Sharpitor summit, a scheduled monument from the Bronze Age. Like many cairns scattered across Dartmoor, it was built as a burial monument, its stones accumulated over time to mark a place of importance to the communities who lived and worked on the moor in prehistory.

Today the cairn remains as a low, stony mound in the rolling landscape. The site lies within the broader pattern of Bronze Age settlement and burial practices that shaped Dartmoor's character, and it forms part of the heritage that walkers and visitors encounter across this high, open terrain.
