Ring cairn 50m north-east of White Hill summit forming part of the White Hill round cairn cemetery

This ring cairn stands 50 metres north-east of White Hill's summit, one element in a larger Bronze Age burial cemetery scattered across the hilltop. Ring cairns, circular banks of stone enclosing a central space, are thought to have marked significant burials or ceremonial sites. The form suggests a period when ritual and landscape were tightly bound together on Dartmoor's high ground.
Today the site offers little obvious grandeur, but its position among other cairns on White Hill speaks to the moor's ancient use as a place of the dead. Walking the summit, you encounter layers of Dartmoor's long history: these Bronze Age monuments sit within a landscape that has been watched, worked and mourned for thousands of years.
