Merrivale Stone Row (West)

Grid ref: SX 5543 7477

Merrivale Stone Row stretches across the high moor in a striking line of granite pillars, most likely erected during the Bronze Age between 2000 and 1500 BCE. The stones are modest in height but commanding in their presence, marking territory or ceremonial space for the communities who inhabited Dartmoor in prehistory. Walking among them, you sense the enduring relationship between people and landscape that has defined this moor for millennia.

The site sits at elevation with uninterrupted views across the moorland plateau. Several stone circles and cairns lie nearby, suggesting this was an important ritual or ceremonial zone. The stones have survived countless centuries exposed to the elements, their surfaces roughened and patinated, standing as silent witnesses to the Bronze Age people who shaped them.
