Grimspound is one of Dartmoor's most evocative Bronze Age sites: a roughly circular enclosure of standing stones surrounding the remains of around twenty roundhouse platforms. Walking among them on the exposed moorland, you can trace the footprints of people who lived here over 3,500 years ago, their homes nestled within this stone-built compound.
The site's preservation is remarkable. The stone circles and foundation rings are still clearly visible, arranged across the gently sloping ground as if abandoned yesterday rather than millennia ago. There's something compelling about standing here: the wind across the moor, the distant granite tors, and the tangible sense of settlement that these stones convey.
